Best Massage Chair For Larger People [Updated 2020]

There’s a problem with majority of massage chairs…

IT’S. TOO. DAMN .SMALL!

Most massage chairs cannot fit a 6 foot 250 lbs man. Accordingly to MedicalNewsToday, the average 20 year old man weighs 197.6 pounds and stands 5 feet 9 inches and has a waist circumference of 40 inches.

Let’s face it, Americans are taller and wider and thus we need the appropriate massage chairs that accommodate us.

The worse part about buying a massage chair is that it’s really hard to return. It’s even harder to try it before you buy it (because most don’t have a store front conveniently located near by)…

So we want to help you. We have done extensive research to present a curated list of the best massage chairs for bigger and taller people.

Let’s begin.

Inada Sogno

Inada Sogno is a high-end massage chair that is built with Japanese design and quality. Inada does not sell cheap chairs that break down in less than a year; they have high quality chairs that are worth the price you pay for. Inada has continuously proven themselves in the highly competitive Japanese massage chair market.

The Inada Sogno has no weight limit, can accommodate between 5 feet and 6 feet 5 inches, and has a 29 inch wide seating.

The Sogno immerses customer into their comprehensive full body massage chair. It’s got more than 1200 inches of body coverage with 100 air bags (that’s quite a lot!).

No shortcuts were taken to build this chair. The outside is covered in soil resistant anti-bacterial synthetic leather. It’s a relief for those with families because let’s be honest, kids can get messy.

The Sogno uses a system of 106 body categorizations as part of their body scan feature to specially cater the massage experience. Many competitor chairs have useless noise making “body scan” technology that doesn’t do anything. Sogno is different, the technology and utility is there.

The Inada Sogno has no weight limit, can accommodate between 5 feet and 6 feet 5 inches, and has a 29 inch wide seating.

We read many features and description of many massage chairs. However, the Inada Sogno is the only chair that does not have a specific weight capacity. They are that confident that this chair can support a large person who can fit into the chair (sounds fair).

Real Relax Favor 03

Real Relax is a company with a solid mission: provide affordable massage chairs with all the features of an expensive one. I must say, they do it well.

The Favor 03 is one my favorites because it’s super affordable and can seat bigger people. It can hold up to 400lbs.

It is one of the cheapest zero gravity chairs you can find on the market. Although keep in mind that it does not have a track and roller system. Instead it has 8 fixed massage points that vibrate and move in a circular motion.

Real Relax Favor 03 can accommodate up to 6 feet 1 inch, 400 lbs, and has a 20 inch wide seating.

My favorite part about the favor 3 is that the backrest and footrest operate independently. So you can recline one but not the other…

Kahuna SM 7300

I personally know some of the staff Kahuna. I asked them what their biggest accommodating massage chair was. They said it was the SM 7300…

But wait a minute. What about the SM 7300S? Well…

It turns out the head rest design on the 7300S makes it less fitting for people with bulky upper body.

Kahuna is a big player in the massage industry. It’s a very reputable brand and it’s got chairs that sized for big American-sized users.

The Kahuna SM 7300 can accommodate up to 320 lbs; 6 feet 5 inches

Top reasons you should buy the SM 7300:

  • It’s one of the highest rated massage chairs on Amazon
  • Kahuna has great customer service; a knowledgable English speaking person will help you
  • It can accommodate big and tall people
  • It’s relatively cheaper than most other chairs in this list
  • It looks good, aesthetically

Luraco iRobotics 7 Plus

I always get so giddy and excited when I talk about the iRobotics. There’s always a few brands that pop out in a marketplace and Luraco is one of them. Luraco is a brand trusted by the United States Military. In fact, its one of the few massage chairs proven (by Weber State University) to provide health benefits.

The iRobotics 7 Plus is a big chair for big people. It can accommodate heights up to 6 feet 9 inches, making it one of the largest accommodating massage chairs in the world.

The Luraco iRobotics 7 Plus can accommodate up to 6 feet 9 inches and 300 lbs

There are so many reasons to buy the Luraco iRobotics 7:

  • Won multiple awards for design, health, and quality home furnishing
  • It’s super safe: UL and FDA listed medical massage chair
  • The preferred massage chair brand by the US military and Veterans hospitals
  • Noise reduction technology (this is often overlooked and unappreciated – who can relax when you can hear the motors running?!)
  • 5 Personal memory options (it’s nice to be able to save settings for multiple people because I sure don’t share the same preferences with Grandma 👵)
  • So ahead in terms of massage technology

Medical Breakthrough 6 v4

Medical breakthrough is the only massage chair that is endorsed by more than 20 doctors. It specializes in chiropractic benefits and is rigorously engineered to improve posture, reduce pain, and help you sleep.

It’s the only brand that is endorsed by a Yale University graduate, William Finn, with over 30 years of Chiropractic experience.

There are revolutionary features in this chair like medical body scan, unlimited customization, and more.

The Medical Breakthrough 6 V4 can accommodate up to 250 lbs, 6 feet 5 inches, and has a 22 inch wide seat.

Top reasons I would buy the Medical Breakthrough:

  • It’s the most advanced medical massage chair in the world
  • More than 5000 customers have paid for this chair (and it’s not cheap!)
  • Endorsements from multiple news outlets and professionals in the field
  • It fits large and tall people
  • Breakthrough patented technology on almost every part of the chair

Titan Pro Jupiter XL

If you want to talk about big massage chairs, you can’t not talk about the Titan Pro Jupiter XL. I think the name of the chair speaks for itself.

Titan / Osaki is one of the most prolific massage chair brands in the industry. They got a big warehouse in Texas and a huge engineering team to build them.

I found this model chair when I talked to Titan’s customer service. The salesmen on the line was quick to recommend me this chair when I asked “what is the biggest accommodating massage chair you have?”

Why buy the Jupiter?

  • XL sizing. Made for bigger and taller people
  • NASA-borrowed technology: zero gravity feature makes you feel like you’re floating in air and decompresses the spine
  • Sophisticated air bag system located in the head, hip, arm, shoulder, calf, and feet
  • A ton of adjustability / customization available

How and what to look for when buying a massage chair for a bigger person

Buying a massage chair online is risky more so if the chair is bigger than average.

If you don’t like it, it might cost you 20% restocking fee + shipping to return it. At the very least, it’s a huge hassle to disassemble and carry it outside.

So…

When browsing through product descriptions, here are some things to look out for.

Weight Limitation

Most massage chairs have a weight limit. During the manufacturing process, the quality assurance team will test and approve the weight capacity stated on the product description.

Although you can probably surpass the weight limit of a chair by more than a couple pounds, we recommend you adhering to them for safety reasons.

Weight capacity can range from 200 lbs to 500 lbs. We recommend erring on the side of caution by purchasing a chair that is 50 lbs above your current weight.

Height Limitation

The best way to find out if a chair can fit you is if you ask a sales person “what is the biggest accommodating chair you guys have?” In fact, this is what we did to come up with our list!

However… if you can’t for whatever reason,

Know that most massage chairs have height limitation. The rollers inside the chair can only go so high on the chair and the foot extension can only go far. It’s important to look for the height limit, which is usually readily available in the product description.

Automatic Body Scan

Automatic body scan is a feature that will scan your body using sensors and adjust the massage accordingly. Typically, this involves changing the stopping position of the roller as it gets higher on the track.

A lot of cheaper chairs do not have quality computerized body scan. It’s often faulty and consumers rarely feel the difference although they may be vastly different in shape and size.

We only recommend brands that are reputable and have proven technology. All of our chairs above are such brands.

Foot Extension

If a massage chair claims to accommodate taller people (over 6 feet 4 inches, lets say) and it doesn’t have a leg extension, you can almost be certain that they are being untruthful about their height accommodation.

Some chairs have manual spring loaded leg extensions and others have automatic leg extension. We recommend automatic because it’s uncomfortable to constantly apply pressure to bottom of the foot part, especially in zero gravity.

On the lower end will be 4 – 5 inches, on the higher end it will be 6 – 9 inches.

Seat Width And Depth

The part that restricts size in a massage chair is the seat width and depth. Unfortunately, these measurements are harder to find in product descriptions. Why? We’re not sure.

However, the average seat width is 20 inches. Some are wider and others are more narrow. If you’re a bigger person, try to get something wider than 20 inches. Also, it may help to grab a measuring tape and see how wide you are while sitting down.

Customer Reviews

Last but not least, read and look for customer reviews that specify height and or weight.

The true and best way to see if a massage chair will fit is if you yourself can try it. The next closest thing is if a real, non-paid customer with similar shape and size tries it and approves it.

Make sure to look for reviews that feel authentic and not one that rants about how good the chair is without any downsides.
