Relaxonchair MK 5 Massage Chair review

Welcome to the review of Relaxonchair MK 5.

If you have been considering purchasing the Relaxonchair MK 5, read on.

It is an expensive purchase, so you want to make sure you’re making the right one.

Believe me, returning a bulky item from Amazon is not the hassle you want in your life (especially because you bought it to destress in the first place!).

 So…

We decided to do a full comprehensive review.  We’ll show you the good stuff along with the bad stuff.  We want you to have the full 411 on the Relaxonchair MK5.

Let’s begin.

Relaxonchair – Who are they?

First, let’s address the confusion that you may encounter.

Relaxonchair is NOT Real Relax.  They are two separate companies.

It’s even more confusing because they both stand for similar things.  Relaxonchair – like many others- created affordable massage chairs.  Many of their chairs are around the $2,000 mark and at the time many of them went for upwards of $10,000.

All their chairs are FDA approved.  This is great news if you want to buy this for grandpa or grandma.  Keep in mind that FDA-approved means they submitted a premarket notification on a class 2 product (typically in massage chairs). They simply provide proof that the chair is similar to the ones already on the market.  It does not go through a stringent or rigorous review process by the FDA.

The other two things that Relaxonchair stands for are quality and customer service.

They are in pursuit of perfection and recommend customers read their reviews.  They seem to have a lot of confidence in that sense.

Judging from their website, it seems like the company is definitely on the smaller side (bigger is not always better 😉 ).

Relaxonchair MK 5 Review

Now let’s talk about some of their core features.

The second Gen contoured L-track

relaxonchair massage chair l track roller system

The L-track is the track where the rollers move to give you the massage.  The MK 5 has a contoured L-track which is the same as SL-track.  This track follows the curvature of your body so that the massage is effective in all areas.

The total length of the track is 50 inches.  This is definitely on the longer side.  We have seen tracks that measure from 43 inches to 53 inches.

Another key thing about L-tracks is that they massage your butt and the underside of your thighs.

Patented 6 Roller System

relaxonchair massage system

Over the years, we’ve seen many roller designs.  Single points rollers, dual two-point rollers, etc…

We haven’t seen a roller system quite like the MK 5.  It has a 6 roller system and it’s pretty complex but works to your advantage.

The little shiatsu balls on the rollers are the first of their kind.  In a circular motion, these bumps kick in well to deliver a deeper massage.

As you can see from the picture, this roller design enables 5 types of massages: kneading, tapping, kneading & tapping, shiatsu, and rolling.  It’s important to note that the difference between the massage types isn’t noticeable.

Intelligent Body Scanning

Have you wondered what a body scan does on a massage chair?

In our research, we found that an “intelligent” body scan is a lot simpler than it sounds.

In the case of MK 5 (And most other massage chairs), the rollers move from the bottom of the track to the top of the track to find how far it should go during a massage.

Most likely using pressure sensors, it can detect when a person’s body is not in contact with the upper portion of the chair.  This allows the roller to stop before the end of the track, allowing a smoother massage (or else it would go past that person’s head).

It sounds like a small detail but this allows a massage that is uninterrupted and flows very well to each person regardless of height.

Remote Controller

relaxonchair mk 5 remote control

Historically speaking, the remote controller has been the most troublesome feature of a massage chair.  For some chairs, it was hard to navigate to certain functionality, it was tethered, the text was hard to read, etc…

The MK V has a slim remote controller and the buttons are intuitive.  You don’t have to fumble through the manual to find the functionality of each button.

Auto Programs

We’re not huge fans of auto programs.  We simply don’t notice huge differences in the massage between the different programs.

With that being said, it’s still nice to have a variety.  The two most popular programs (Yoga and Stretch) are included in the MK V.  These two programs are awesome if you enjoy being tossed around (I love it!).

5 Regular Auto Programs

  • Recovery
  • Pain Relief
  • Stretch
  • Yoga
  • Experience

4 Special Programs

  • Relax
  • Sleep
  • Neck-shoulder
  • Back-waist

Air Massage System and Lower Lumbar Heat

There are a total of 38 airbags.  38 is on the lower side of the spectrum we’ve seen.  However, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

These airbags aid with blood circulation.  They squeeze your limbs, enabling the blood to flow faster throughout your body.

The airbags are strategically placed in the following places:

  • Shoulders
  • Hips
  • Calves
  • Feet

The heat in the lower lumbar area is nice, especially in the winter.  Ideally, we’d like the heat to be in the butt and leg area as well as the lower back area.

Zero Gravity

What are massage chairs nowadays without zero gravity?

The MK 5 has the zero gravity feature.  It can be enabled with a single click of a button.

The zero gravity feature distresses your back by elevating your feet above your heart.

relaxonchair zero gravity mode

In zero gravity, your legs are raised above the level of your heart.  Being in this position gives you several health benefits including reduction of anxiety, improvement of blood flow, and increase in flexibility.

The MK V will recline your chair back 30 degrees and raise your feet about the same (28 degrees) when in zero gravity.

All of this with a push of a button!

Warranty

The MK V comes with a 3-year warranty.

During the 1st year of purchase, all parts and labor including any transportation cost are covered.

During the 2nd year of purchase, only defective parts and components are covered.  Transportation/shipping is NOT covered.

During the 3rd year, only the structural body frame is covered.  In case the body frame is bent or damaged, Relaxonchair will send you a replacement.

Conclusion

The Relaxonchair MK V is a good choice for those who are looking for an off-brand massage chair on the cheaper side.  Keep in mind that you won’t have the customer service that brands such as Kahuna provide.

It includes all the luxuries of a good brand like zero gravity, a multitude of auto programs, and a long 50-inch L-track that contours your body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the roller hit the back of the thighs?

No.  Although the MK V does have a longer L-track, it only goes far as the butt area but not past.  It does not hit the back of the thighs.

Is It Comfortable When Not Massaging?

Unfortunately not.  The default position isn’t quite upright to watch TV.  It also doesn’t have much space for a laptop so it wouldn’t be comfortable to use one while on the chair.

Is There White Glove Delivery?

Yes, it does.  They will un-package the chair in your choice of location, assemble it according to the manual, and clean up the space (throw away the trash, plastic wrapping, etc…).

How well does it massage the neck?

It does a decent job of massaging the neck.  With the cushions attached, the massage is gentle on your neck.  If you take the cushions off, it will be a rougher massage.

Is the MK V similar to the Kahuna SM 7300?

In many ways, yes.  Some customers believe they are very similar chairs based on the parts.  Kahuna is a very well-known brand so we would say it most certainly differs in reliability and customer service.
